The Tape recorder service is operated by Code Brew Studio Pty Ltd, ABN 57 678 003 248 ("we", "us"), in Australia. This policy explains what information we collect when you use Tape at use-tape.com, why we collect it, and the choices you have. The short version: we collect what we need to run the service plus basic, privacy-conscious usage analytics, we don't run ads, and we never sell your data.
Account information. When you sign in with Google or Microsoft, we receive your name, email address, and profile photo from that provider. When you sign in with an email magic link, we collect your email address. Authentication is handled by Google Firebase.
Your recordings. Recording happens entirely in your browser. A recording stays on your device unless you choose to upload it. When you upload a tape, the video (which may include your screen, camera, and voice) is stored with our hosting provider, Cloudflare. When you use an AI feature, the recording's audio is sent to Google's enterprise Gemini API solely to generate the title, summary, key points, and transcript, which we store alongside the recording. Under the paid API terms we use, Google does not use your content to train its models, and neither do we.
Billing information. Payments are processed by Stripe. We never see or store your card details; we store only a Stripe customer reference and your subscription status.
Usage information. We keep counters needed to operate plan limits (such as how many tapes you host and how many AI runs you've used), view counts on share pages, and standard server logs, including IP addresses used for security rate limiting. We also use Google Analytics to understand how the website is used: which pages are visited and how visitors arrive. We configure it conservatively: Google's advertising features and ad-personalisation signals are switched off, and it never receives your recordings, your name, or your email address. It sets a small number of cookies to tell returning visitors apart. We do not use advertising trackers.
We use your information to provide Tape: to authenticate you, store and play back the tapes you upload, generate AI summaries and transcripts you request, process your subscription, enforce plan limits, secure the service, and respond when you contact us. We also review website analytics in aggregate to understand what to improve. We do not sell personal information, and we do not use your recordings to train AI models.
When you publish a share link, that page (including the video, summary, and transcript) is visible to anyone who has the link. You can stop sharing at any time, which takes the page down. Paid plans can also protect a share link with a password. Recordings are private to you until you choose to share them.
If you export a recording to Google Drive or Microsoft OneDrive, the copy is transferred to your own account with that provider and is governed by their terms. Tape only accesses files it creates.
We share data only with the providers needed to run Tape, and only for that purpose:
Your data may be stored and processed in the United States and other countries where these providers operate.
Your recordings and their AI metadata are kept until you delete them; deleting a tape removes the video from storage. To delete your account and all associated data, email us at support@use-tape.com and we'll action it promptly. Billing records are retained as required by law.
All traffic is encrypted in transit. Video uploads and playback use short-lived signed URLs, and share-page passwords are stored only as salted hashes. No system is perfectly secure, but we design the service so recordings are accessible only to their owner and to people the owner shares them with.
You can access, correct, or delete your personal information by managing it in the app or by emailing support@use-tape.com. We handle personal information in accordance with the Australian Privacy Principles. If you're unsatisfied with our response to a privacy concern, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (oaic.gov.au). If you're in a jurisdiction with additional rights (such as the GDPR), we'll honour applicable requests.
Tape is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information.
If we make material changes to this policy, we'll update this page and the date above. Questions or requests: support@use-tape.com.
